An easy one to explain.
If they were intent on banning milkshakes, soft drinks or anything else that a straw is used, then why bother going after the straw, just eliminate the products used by straws to consume and then straws would become useless and so just naturally disappear.
The fact the straws were targeted proves the rest are safe.
