If the child is yours, he'll inherit your citizenship - so you need to apply for an Irish passport for him.
Is his mother happy for him to move countries without her? You can't just take him out of Kenya without her consent.

The mother has de facto custody of the child, and the child is a citizen of Kenya residing in Kenya. You need a court order of permanent sole custody of the child as well as get the child Irish citizenship (assuming you are a citizen of Ireland) & an Irish passport to have any possibility of bringing the child to live with you in Ireland. Apparently you never married the mother prior to child's birth, so you may need paternity tests (DNA tests all around) before you can get Irish citizenship for the child, go to court and prove the mother unfit to get permanent sole custody, and possibly bring child to Ireland.
First, step is hire an attorney to arrange for paternity tests, establish Irish citizenship (dual-nationality) of the child, and then petition the court for custody.

The child should be able to get an Irish passport. The Kenyan authorities may very well require some form of consent order from the mother to allow the child, who will also be a Kenyan citizen, to be removed from the country.

You of course are registered as the kids father on it birth certificate.... in which case the kid is already and Irish citizen and you need to apply for an Irish passport for him, Kids have their own passport they do not get added to the adult parents passport

He needs both. You need to get him 2 passports. Kenyan, and Irish. Once he has the Irish passport, he can travel to Ireland with no further bother.

This is a question for your department of state. If possible, it would most likely be better to get him on an Irish passport, as he will most likely have fewer travel restrictions.
