The unknown can be scary so that's normal, but you will make new friends at your new job too. I would feel that way if I left my current job for a better one. Do what you have to do to make ends meet.

I worked in retail for a long time too, but I realized that it's not going to pay the bills. I quit when I found a full time job. Never regretted quitting my retail job, in fact I was happy that I finally got out of it. When I quit retail I was making about $10 per hr and they were giving me 2-4 days a week, 4-5 hr shifts. I've worked in a warehouse for over 3 years and they're paying me $15.67 per hr, full time Mon - Fri with benefits. Way better then retail could ever do for me.

If you're talking about retail, they rarely have full time positions and they're often minimum wage jobs. They don't expect you to make a living off of one job (there's no possible way that you could), which is why some people often have 2 or 3 jobs if they work in retail. You can go back and visit when you have time to, but don't regret having to making better choices for your self. They will move on.

Yes it's normal. It's scary to walk away from everything familiar.

But you don't have to make a clean break. Make sure you have all their email addresses, are friends on facebook, etc. Schedule a time to meet up and socialize with your former co-workers. Do they ever go out for drinks after work? Go with them next time if it fits your new schedule. When you're ready to move out, see if any of them need a roommate.

Why care about your past employer? They don't give a damn about you or they would compensate you properly.

I worked at a place for 15 years, I started there when I was 16. I left the place full of excitement, yearning for a new challenge with a new job which I found. After a fortnight I was distraught and thought I'd made a mistake. I gave it a try, gave it a couple of months and I started to enjoy my new role.

People don't like change, they enjoy routine.

Just give it a chance and and a little time. You will should be fine.

Absolutely normal. You are leaving a situation that you actually like and going into a situation that is new with new people. Having anxiety and feeling depressed over the change is normal.

To help you move on, think of all the things your current job has NOT given you - like the income to be able to live on your own or opportunities to advance.

As you learn your new job and make new friends among your new co-workers, you might begin to feel better over the situation.
