Does your body hold onto water weight if you’re dehydrated and suddenly start drinking more water each day?
I had a bad habit of not drinking enough water each day. It was probably around 16 oz a day because I never really felt thirsty. I’ve been on a diet lately and have been trying to drink at least 64 oz a day at least. After the first two days I’ve found that I’m 5 pounds heavier on the scale and I actually dont need to urinate as often as I did before I started drinking more water, and when I do it’s not a huge amount either. I understand I didn’t gain fat but how long does the body hold onto this water before it realized you’re hydrated?

This may be permanent. A pint weighs a pound. If you remain hydrated, your body weight will reflect that. If you eat a lot of salt or have other reasons for holding on to water, that could be temporary.
The thing you need to see here is that weight alone is not a good indication of health, body composition. clothing size, fitness, beauty, popularity, or intelligence. Stop focusing on weight. Instead, focus on developing healthy habits that include drinking about a gallon of water per day, eating healthy foods, and getting daily exercise.
Chronic dehydration has negative effects on skin, mental clarity, mood, muscles, food cravings, bowel function, and even causes bad breath. Don't let a few pounds of water weight lead you to serious health issues.

Yes, that's called being hydrated.

within the past few days I got updated info on water, but only remembered the male part....went from 64oz to 104oz per day.......never weigh yourself after a water ingestion adjustment....water weighs 9# per gal....of course you are gonna weigh more........you missed it completely.....
