Piercing has painful bumps around it?

I got my industrial/scaffold piercing done a little more than 2 days ago. Everything went well, not as painful as I expected, but starting from this morning it has been more painful than it was the day I got it done, and whilst I was cleaning it a few minutes ago I noticed that the pain is due to swollen red bumps around BOTH holes. Is this normal? It can’t be keloids because I got it done so recently, could it be an infection? But wouldn’t it be rare for both the holes of a scaffold to get infected together?

The pain is a kind of throbbing pain, getting more intense is pressure is applied to the swollen bumps.

What should I do?

Thanks for the help.

    They sound like irritation bumps.

They form because of irritation, and will go away when the source of irritation goes away.

It could be that your skin is sensitive and is reacting to the metal of the jewelry. Call your piercer and be sure that what you have in your ear is implant grade. If it isn't, get it changed.

Be sure that you are taking care of your piercing using sterile saline wound wash spray and sterile gauze pads. Using anything else will just cause irritation, that will make your problem worse. Saturate a sterile gauze pad with sterile saline spray and hold it on the inside and outside of the upper piercing. Do the same for the lower piercing. Use a clean gauze pad for each piercing. Soak the piercings for 5 - 10 mins. After soaking, use the same gauze pads to remove any softened crust or discharge.

Some crust or discharge is normal as long as it is light colored and doesn't smell bad. If it is dark colored and smells bad, then its puss. This is a sign of infection, and something you should go to the doctor for, but if it isn't gross smelling or dark colored then your fine.

This piercing takes a long time to heal, so be patient and give it time.
