There's lots of games that can do that, but which one that he can play? For starters, try playing FPS games like Counter Strike, Left 4 Dead, since it's much simpler.

After that, try playing some strategy/MOBAs like Warcraft 3, DotA 2, or League of Legends, which heavily focused on teamwork.

Then the ultimate test, try playing a Battle Royale game like Fortnite, which team-work is a MUST for winning a game.

By himself: pretty much any real time strategy games like Starcraft. He needs to know to to combine units to be effective. Marines can aim land and air units but they’re weak. Add a medic and suddenly they're much more powerful since they can now be healed. Firebats are strong against organic units but they’re useless against air units. Team them with marines and medics and suddenly you have a unit capable of mowing down the zergs in no time at all.

With other people: SOCOM was a great game that required teamwork.

Is that 1 mbps upstream or downstream?

If upstream, his downstream should be enough. I recommend that people get at least 10 mbps per active user on their network. If he's the only one on it, then the minimal internet would be enough.

If he still has 1 mbps down, then that's like the starting speeds of broadband providers from 25 years ago. He won't be able to do hardly anything with that.
