Ball python heating?

If I keep the room temp of my reptile room at 85 degrees, can it survive without a heat lamp or mat? I know my corn snakes do but I’m just wondering will my ball be fine?

No! Snakes need a variety of temperatures so that they can maintain the preferred body temperature through thermo-regulaton. Balls need a temperature range of 90 F in the basking area, and a background temp 80 F - 85 F. Not only will your electricity bill shoot up (maintaining an entire room at such a high temperature will take a lot of power), but your snake wont be able to thermo-regulate properly in that situation.

Placing the heat pad UNDERNEATH the tank, or placing th heat lamp on top mesh of the enclosure on the OUTSIDE will prevent the risk of burns. Make sure you use a suitable thermostat to prevent over heating.

They should have a basking spot of 88-90

Never knew a keeper that only heated the room for ball pythons only people doing that for colubrids

I wouldn’t do it that way.

Absolutely! I do so all the time, just make sure you're using a reliable thermometer and keep track of your humidity!

Ball pythons come from a very warm climate where it doesn't even cool off at night because they're usually separate from the elements. A stable ambient temperature is fine to use instead of a gradient.
