What is natural “selection”?

Is it the developing of new traits? Or is it the separating of traits present?

Basically overtime animals and plants adapt to there environment. There are predator

vs prey relationships, temperature, scarcity of water among other variables which determine the organisms chance of survival

Nope. The selection comes when the random variations are picked by nature in a very non-random way. If you have traits that make you more likely to survive you pass those ones along more often. If you have ones that make you less likely to survive your line dies off.

It's the separating of traits present leaving behind the best adapted traits.
