It will be like Obamas promise to close Guantanamo bay, he'll have meant it but will realise it's unfeasible and unrealistic when in office

What 'recent events' specifically? Trump appears to have a thick enough skin that he's not likely to do that easily. I'd suggest if not, he'd have walked away by now.
