Christians, why do you deny this FACT? Jesus is a metaphor for the SUN....?

Why did Christians hijacl Dec 25 for Jesus' birthday? The following qoute is from a CHRISTIAN WEBSITE:

"The eventual choice of December 25, made perhaps as early as 273, reflects a convergence of Origen's concern about pagan gods and the CHURCH'S IDENTIFICATION OF GOD' SON WITH THE CELESTIAL SUN."

There is no direct statement in the Bible concerning the month or day of Jesus’ birth.

Where, did the date of December 25 come from? According to The Encyclopædia Britannica, some who called themselves Christians wished the date to coincide with the pagan Roman festival marking the winter solstice, when the days again begin to lengthen and the sun begins to climb higher in the sky.

That same reference work notes that many Christmas customs originated with pagan agricultural and solar observances at midwinter.

This was a popular holiday in the Roman Empire that celebrated the winter solstice as a symbol of the resurgence of the sun, the casting away of winter and the heralding of the rebirth of spring and summer.

The reason for establishing December 25 as Christmas is somewhat obscure, but it is usually held that the day was chosen to correspond to pagan festivals that took place around the time of the winter solstice, when the days begin to lengthen, to celebrate the rebirth of the sun.

A more likely explanation than the claim it was stolen from pagans would be that at some point in history, Hanukkah ended on that date one particular year, which would be entirely possible since the Juillian calendar was out of sync with the solar year.

There is theological evidence in the Books of Macabees (1&2) to support the posibility that Hanukkah and Christmas are intended to be linked.

FTR, the solstice occurs on December 22

Christ was a real man. He lived and was killed. He rose from the dead and ascended into heaven.

The choices for the various dates was based on lessons learned by the Romans. Take over the others feasts and you'll take over their hearts.

Just because we don't know the actual date of his birth does not invalidate that he was in fact born.

I do not worship the sun. I worship the Son.

No. I worship Jesus. I don’t care what day was chosen to celebrate Christmas. I reject your premise. A plain reading of the creation narrative shows God created light before the sun and moon were created to mark the days and the months. Jesus is not a created being (John 1:1,2). The sun was created, and is finite.

    It’s symbolic, genius.

Pagan festivals around solstice were very ancient and popular, so Christianity adopted them to suit local beliefs.

The evergreen trees and plants signify life after death, etc. It’s not a secret that the origins and symbolism are pagan just as the egg and fertility with Easter.
