Theists believe that religion provides morals. If so, why do the most secular/ non-religious nations have extremely low murders or rapes?

Not only that, but the most secular nations in the world report the highest levels of happiness among their population, low teen pregnancy rates, and tend to be much wealthier than religious states. Japan, New Zealand, and Norway for example are highly moral nations that do not rely on religion or a god thingy.

Religion keeps our morals in the bronze age.

Religion provides morals, but so do other things.

If you need religion to be a good person, than you are not a good person. If you need the idea of a god watching over you in order to do right, then you’re in the wrong. There’s nothing wrong with whorshipping a deity, but needing it to be a decent human being is. Check out these websites below:

Some religions believe they invented morality and marriage. And hold the rights to them.

as much as I hate to say this, some of the theists have made good points about your choice of countries for your argument.

The'res more to this than you're implying. You're saying since Japan isn't as religious as the U.S. they're happier and they have lower crime.

The thing is Japan as nation has one language, one culture and one people. We in the U.S. are influenced by people of other nations, races, religions and illegal immigration.

Japan doesn't have the same population as we do and they don't face the same immigration that we do. You're coming to a faulty conclusion based one on specific thing that works in the favor of your atheism without applying everything else into consideration.

morality must have come from evolution, otherwise morality is from the First Cause.

    So a couple of things.

(i)Secular and Non-religious people are just as capable of being good, decent and moral people. This shouldn't even be a debate

(ii)Correlation doesn't equal causation. The amount of rape and murders in places like Sweden and Norway have nothing to do with them being secular. It has to do with the fact that they have highly developed countries economically and socially, irrespective of religion.

(iii)These same countries should be idealized too much. In the same countries you are also seeing the rise of far right, anti immigrant and anti muslim racist tendencies as well.

A better question is why homicide rate is so high in USA.

All developed countries have a low rate compared to USA

Low rates are also attributed to low reporting of such crimes....and you do realize that in Russia, the main form of contraception is abortion, right? I wouldn't say Japan is a secular nation. They have a lot of cultural superstitions that can equate to a religious mindset...and I notice you left out China. (the sleeping giant I suppose of secular nations) Add China to the mix and see your stats suffer.

Oh wait, did you just cherry pick your stats? o m g.
