What is wrong with my speaker system?

My desktop runs on Gigabyte motherboard Gigabyte b85m-d3h-a. It says that it supports 5.1. And I have got Realtek HD Audio Manager (version 6.0.1.8036). I've just bought Logitech Z906. The conncetion is made with the 6- channel direct input cable Logitech provided. I connected both ends as per the colour codes and chose the pop- up message options from Realtek driver correctly.

When I'm testing the speakers using Realtek HD Audio Manager (Speakers> Speaker Configuration), none of the rest 4 pieces apart from 2 front speakers produce any sound. But when I play any song or video in my computer, all speakers work. But then, another thing is front left is producing the same sound as rear left and front right is matching rear right; even if I play Dolby digital songs from Youtube or other sources. Please let me know what the solution is.

If the realtek manager test screen does not show SIX SPEAKERS or at least Five, but instead shows TWO, it is set in stereo mode. And is testing only TWO speakers, the left and right.fronts. If so, you need to change it to surround, or quad, mode in its menus. Check your PC's System manager menus, and be sure the audio control driver there is also set for surround, or quad. In realtek, click on the pinout graphic and be sure the legends read correctlyfor FR FL BR BL C, etc If not, use the controls to set them correctly. Remember than non- surround encoded material, (material from Youtube, whatever) will not be playing in surround, just because. eh, it isn't.

did you set the 6 channel direct input. is your soundcard cable of it? sounds like the system is treated as stereo and i think thats an issue on your speaker side. https://support.logitech.com/en_ch/article/23022%3... here is the setup guide you should follow.

My guess is that there is some incompatibility going on somewhere in the system. The thing to remember is that not all surround is the same thing often different formats are incompatible with one another..Especially when your talking about digital vs analog...Digital surround and analog surround and two different animals and require different processors and usually different types of connection cables. Do not assume that conversion is going to take place between one format and another usually this does not happen, nor does it take place. Dolby digital usually requires an optical or coax digital cable to work or HDMI cable...In other words the codec must be trasmitted in digital format in order for the processor to work. Switching from analog to digital never happens and digital to analog rarly happens Also Dolby Digital is a patented process; any processor that works with Dolby Digital must pay royalty fees to Dolby Lavatories, also another requirement is that they display and advertize the Dolby Logo, with in packaging and with stickers on the equipment itself, they have to do that to meet Dolby requirements so no Logo is a good indicator that the equipment cannot do Dolby processing the same requirements exist for DTS ......You might be able to find a Chinese no name processor that will do processing in an unauthorized manner but do not expect something like that to be trouble free because both Dolby and DTS change the Codec from time to time with updates...Also computer hardware is notorious for not wanting to pay Dolby fees so they will use there own non compatible format for surround usually analog not digital although some game boards will have propitiatory digital...Usually analog surround is less restrictive and you see compatibility between Dolby Pro logic; Neo 6 and some of the computer surround formats. But digital is going to be very restrictive especially when your talking about Dolby Digital or DTS digital..and you will never see analog to digital conversion either So you will never get analog in digital out it must be digital in for digital out....Also sometimes with computer hardware that is Dolby Digital compatible it does not come from the factory that way you must do a firmware update in order for it to work....Most Dolby digital sound cards are hi end expensive items because your board is compatible does not mean its built in it could be you need to buy additional equipment...There are after-market Digital to analog converters that are not too expensive usually they only put out a stereo analog signal though but very few analog to digital converters exist except of the black and grey markets.direct from China and they too cost and don't work that well with the patented formats
