Update:

Sorry for updating now, but I talk about Ink Tank (CISS) printers, not the standard ink jet printer with its expensive cartridge

    No.

Inkjet printers are cheap as the makers virtually give them away - so people need to buy ink refills, which are ludicrously expensive for tiny amounts of ink. Often a set of replacement ink cartridges costs more than the printer did..

They also tend to dry up and/or have print quality problems if not used regularly.

Laser printers cost a bit more to start with but the long term running costs - price per page - are much lower.

And the print speed is much higher.

You can get a good colour laser printer for around 150-

(Don't go for the very bottom models - they can also be more expensive to run).

Get a big-name one that you can get refilled toner cartridges for; that cuts running costs even more and unlike inkjet inks, laser toner materials are pretty standard.

  • An inkjet printer is cheaper but ink costs a lot more than toner. For low volumes, such as home or small office use, an inkjet printer is more economical. For high volumes, such as a large office or print shop, a laser printer gives you more copies for your buck.
