Why does the United States pretend to be a Democracy?

I have a question. Why does the United States pretend to be a democracy? The US government takes so much money (up to a third of our GDP) and gives it all to the military just to be at peace. This is a militaristic run government, and I believe it will be full communism by 2020. We spend money on things like library's and schools, which is completely a waste of money and resources. It is theft. I have 2 questions. When do you predict that the US will fall to communism, and why does it pretend to be a democracy at the moment?

The US is indeed becoming less and less democratic all the time but it is nowhere near communism, more like an oligarchy. Your comment that the US government spends 1/3 of the GDP on the military is way off base and makes you look foolish. But you are right that there is a lot of pretense and lip service when it comes to democracy, it's useful to the few people in power to pretend that the people have the power, it keeps them in their privileged position.

LOL - nice rant. Hard to know where to start with this croc. But I'm not going to bother. You wouldn't believe it anyway.

Communism? Don't be ridiculous. At most, we might move in the direction of European social democracy, sometimes called "soft socialism" -- capitalism with good benefits for citizens, such as universal health care.

But Soviet-style Communism will never be on the agenda. And you are quite wrong about the percentage of spending on military. You appear to be poorly informed all the way around.

The US government exists to serve the interests of the capitalist class, the one percent who own the land, factories, offices, etc, and who live very nicely off rent, interest and profit. The military defend their interests over much of the globe, eg by controlling access to oil, trade routes and so on.

'Full communism': a classless stateless society by 2020? I don't think so.

There is so much systemic space between what we have and outright Communism that I doubt the US will ever be a Communist country. People who use this word usually really mean some kind hybrid that includes limited Capitalism with robust social programs (that some might erroneously call "Socialism"). Few who advocate this are really hoping for a complete governmental takeover of all the means of production (which is the poly-sci definition of Communism). I know a handful of people who claim to be Communists and every single one of them works in the private sector in jobs that would be eliminated or far lower paid were real Communism to become the US economic system. Sometimes people just use this inflammatory word to differentiate themselves from the status quo.

The US is a republic. It always has been. Our pledge allegiance clearly states "and to the republic, for which it stands."

We do indeed spend a boatload on our military, but no, it does not come anywhere close to 1/3 of our GDP.
