Isn’t liking movie stage same as liking sports?

I hate sports but I live movies. People think I’m weird for liking movies but those people happen to like sports, which I think is basically the same thing because they’re both entertaining to people. Is it the same thing?

Kinda, sorta. People are interested in sports, mostly because they identify with the team and share in the wins and losses as if that was their own goals they are struggling for. With a movie, yes you can identify with the main character and his struggles and feel for him, but movies are short, so it is hard to develop a lasting self identity with the main character. Different movies have different protagonists, and different challenges, and the protagonist usually succeeds. In sports if the team loses, you feel bad, but know there is always another game or another season.

Not really, because sports started as imitation battles, and the whole purpose of the games is to defeat your opponent. That's not true of movies.

I don't think it's weird to like movies. Are those people mental? Everyone likes movies. Where as sports is a specific demographic, not for everyone.
