Russia will never give up the Crimea, it is their only sea port which gives them direct access into the Mediterranean Sea.

Plus of course due to Stalin deporting and starving to death the vast majority of the population in this part of the Ukraine and repopulating this region it with Russians, it is now populated with Russian descendants.

The majority of the population in the Crimea feel a closer link to Russia, this was heightened when the Ukrainian government expressed a desire to join the European Union.

If say a UN backed army tried to take back the Crimea by force, they would be fighting the very people they would supposed to be liberating.

The only lasting resolution to this would seem to me to be some sort of autonomy for this region of the Ukraine.

Since I am not greatly familiar with the situation and all of the surrounding factors, I will not be arrogant and take a stance on it or try to estimate its length.

However, I will say that the people involved in the conflict are dupes. Fighting for the interests of inferior civilisations with no uniquely desirable attributes. What is so wonderful about either Ukraine or the prospect of Russia's expansion that is so worth getting maimed or killed for? Weak-mindedness. Mental enslavement.

Just imagine. If all of these nations, tribes and people in general faced the reality that they really have nothing worth caring, campaigning or fighting to preserve, so much hatred, violence and destruction would end and the world would be a far more peaceful place. People need to stop being such oblivious, prideful, unimaginative and primitive tools.
