Can i wire 120v to both legs ?
I want to backfeed 120v 30A into my breaker panel.
I will turn off main breaker and then turn on backfeed breaker that will supply 120v 30A to the panel.
I am using double pole breaker, but i only have one terminal connected right now.
Is it ok to jump both terminals with a wire to create connection to both legs in order to deliver power to more then one place in the house ?
Obviously i will turn unwanted breakers off (such as 240V)
Question is simply this: Can i connect both legs with a double pole breaker while generator is in use ?
I am using interlock mechanism to block both breaker to turn on at once. (obviously)

I seen people do worse things! Especially after Hurricane Sandy hit!
Although your setup is crude, illegal and dangerous, your idea makes total sense. (in an emergency situation) It also beats the heck out of trying to move breakers around so they are all on the same leg.
Source(s): I'll probably get pounded for encouraging it. But who cares! - yLv 72 years ago
That interlock is only for the generator and the main, not for all the other 240, if any, circuits. You forget one and you could be in a world of hurt.
As for the concept, if done correctly, it will work. As opposed to that though, i would go through the trouble of moving the circuits that you wish to use, all to the same leg. As opposed to jumping. Not sure what you are planning on running with just the 30 amps.

I want to backfeed 120v 30A into my breaker panel.
DO NOT EVEN THINK about doing that.
The ONLY safe way to do power your home wiring when utility power is out it to install a transfer switch that COMPLETELY disconnects the utility lines when the generator is connected.
Note: This is one job that is NOT for amateurs. If you are not 100% certain, you shouldn't have done what you claim you already did.

What you suggest is in theoretically effective, but very susceptible to dangerous error, especially considering stress of situation that causes you to need a generator.
Just do the smart thing and get a 240v generator.

if you are an electrician , you will know
If you are not an electrician then the end result is electrocution or a house fire
