Not for a very long time.

We have no colony in space yet.

The ISS is not a colony. It gets supplies from a supply shipevery few weeks.

A colony would be self sufficient in such things as air water and food.

Supposedly, a Mars mission will occur in the 2040s.

Just on an orbit and return basis.

For a Mars colony, we need recycling gear that just does not exist yet.

And a colony in orbit around the Earth , or on our Moon, or on Mars are the easiest ones, I think we may see such a colony within 200 or 300 years.

For a colony in deep space (going to another star system), I think we will be waiting for many thousands of years.

PS -- no aliens have ever visited earth.

Our atoms are what make us interstellar beings. We are products of a star or stars outside our solar system. Are we like aliens that visited earth? You couldn't sell that one at a cheap rummage sale.

It looks like we won't survive long enough to achieve interstellar travel. Too many conservative and capitalist leaders.

Faster than light traveling is impossible. That is a fact, unfortunately. We will eventually build nuclear powered ships that can go close to the speed of light. These will take us to the stars. But that technology is probably thousands of years away.

There is no evidence that aliens have visited earth. Don't believe those Ancient Aliens tv shows.

There are no theories of how FTL travel can be done. Only fantasies. And I'll say it too - there is no evidence that Earth has been visited. And actually the deeper you look the sillier the idea gets. As I like to put it - they traveled 50 light years so they could fly around in the sky all the time. Right.......

All it will take is the invention of a FTL (faster than light) drive.

That one invention will open up the entire universe to us.

Some will say that FTL technology is impossible, but there are

already plenty of theories about how it could be done. Plus, revolutionary new technology tends to come from directions that were never anticipated, or thought to be impossibe: e.g. flight via heavier-than-air vehicles, or microelectronics based on quantum mechanics.

Based on our current rate of technological progress, which happens to be accelerating exponentially, a FTL drive could become real within 100-200 years.

Never. The distances are much too large.

There is NO evidence that any "alien" has ever visited the Earth. None.
