Need help with math question?

Assume that the regular work week of an employee is 35 hours and that the employee is paid for any extra hours worked according to the following schedule. For hours worked in excess if 35 hours, up to including 40 hours, the employee receives his regular hourly rate of pay. For hours worked in excess of 40 hours, the employee receives 1 1/2 times his hourly rate of pay. If the employee s hourly rate of pay is $5.60 and he works 43 hours during a certain week, his total pay for the week would be?

I multiplied 5.60 x 43 hours and got 240.80 I still feel there is more. How do you solve this?

He gets $5.60 an hour for the first 40 hours.

    Every hour after that, he gets 1.5 * regular pay, which is 5.60 * 1.5 = $8.40/hr.

He worked 43 hours, so that's

    5.60/hr * 40 hours, plus

    8.40/hr * 3 hours

    So

    (5.60 * 40) + (8.40 * 3) =

    (224.00) + (25.20) =

    $249.20

    Hope that helps!
