Illiteracy means ignorance and backwardness. Illiteracy cannot be self-eradicated. It is the parents who make their child learn. Immediately, therefore, the answer flashes our conscious, where are the good parents who can eradicate this colossal problem of India that is getting invincible with time.
The ‘good parents’ for a nation are their governing system. I therefore strongly assert to first find a good mother in terms of a good governance who is sensitive to human sufferings and capable to addressing the maladies ailing India and fulfilling the basic objectives of the Constitution. Education is a part of it. This alone is the practical and tangible answer, rest all are theories!
It is a universal truth that individuals or societies never progress whose masses remain illiterate or semi-literate. India is an oxymoron with about 86% or 116 crore people as illiterate or semi-literate (including school pass-outs and drop-outs) and the same numbers of poor and impoverished compelled to live a pathetic and sorrowful life, dependent on government charities, reliefs and dole-outs or begging.
