There is nothing credit repair agencies do that you cannot do yourself, and for free.

PROOF:
'Companies that promise they are able to scrub your credit reports of accurate, negative information for a fee are lying - plain and simple,' said Lydia Parnes, Director of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection. 'Under federal law, accurate, negative information can be reported for up to seven years, and some bankruptcies can be reported for up to 10 years.'
What else do you need?
Wait, I know, everyone with an IQ over 100 and the federal government are all wrong.

When you refer to "your credit", what you are really referring to are the records kept by the credit reporting agencies documenting your history of credit use. You are interested in repairing your credit because you believe the information contained in those reports makes you look bad to potential lenders. The credit reporting agencies do not care how the information in their reports on you makes you look. All they care about is whether or not their information is accurate.
Since the credit repair agencies do not keep the records, they have no ability to change the information contained in those records. They can't tell the reporting agencies to remove information that makes you look bad from your report, and they're certainly not going to pay your bills for you. If they can't change the information on your report to make your credit look better and they're not going to pay your bills, what service is it that they actually provide?
The "service" they provide is to contact those who you owe money to and attempt to negotiate lower payoff amounts. Only you're perfectly capable of doing that yourself. So why pay them?
