what do I need to start a fitness class in my local community hall?
I have recently qualified in Body Balance and I would like to start teaching in my own time. I would like to rent out a hall space in my town. Do I need insurance etc. - things such as that?.. this probably sounds a bit stupid but I thought I'd ask on here. Thank you

You contact them and ask about the requirements. You can bet you'll need insurance; at least general liability, but also probably some participant accident coverage too. Workers comp most likely as well, but you'll have to ask. Contact local agents for quotes.
The center doesn't want to get sued by allowing you to use their space...

They may or may not charge you for use of it. They may require liability insurance in case anyone is hurt.

Start by calling the community hall and see what they require - there may be an outside chance that they have an umbrella liability insurance policy that covers everyone. If not, ask if they require one (most likely yes) andsee if they have any minimum requirements. Then call city hall (licensing) and if they require any form of license - be sure to ask if they know of any state requirements and if not, who do you call at the state to verify. You may also need a business license (I assume you are going to charge for these classes) - ask about that also.
