If the USA stopped billing itself as the best place on God's earth, might that stop people trying to get in?

My problem with American Exceptionalism isn't that is makes America too attractive to outsiders, it is that anyone who holds a belief that they are already "the best" doesn't feel compelled to try to get better. Exceptionalism makes Americans arrogant even while our country falls behind others in education, healthcare, and general happiness and is only "number one" in incarcerations and mass murders.

It's not that the USA is the most best place in the world. Finland is rated the number one place for happiness and freedom. but everybody all around the world knows that the United States is the land of the free handout!

The United States has more free handouts then any other place! that's what brings people here more than anything.

The US is billed as the "Land of opportunity", which it still is.

Opportunity means YOU have to take advantage of your rights and freedoms to help make your life the way you'd want it to be.

It's not like a person can come here and fortune just falls into their lap.

And most people here don't care if others "get in" as long as they do so legally and contribute to society, rather than sponging off of it.

    No.

For many of these people, the best place on God's earth is the place they can actually GO.

If you thought Sweden was Utopia compared to the USA, what good does that do a destitute person in Honduras?

I just think its sad that people want to come into such a wicked and morally corrupt place like America. This country has fooled other people into thinking this is the land of the free and home of the brave when its really the land of the spiritually dead home of the slave.

If there were a God, he'd have nothing to do with the United States.
