Do I need a certain degree to be a Real Estate Agent?

As sad as it sounds, i’m in college and I don’t know if I should be. I’m taking some of my GE classes but what type of a degree will it give me when i’m done? Should I tell my counselor that I’m specifically looking to be a real estate agent? She just gave me a General Education Gradute paper and circled classes that I needed to take. (What are they for though?) Would it benefit me if I got my General Studies AA degree and my Real estate certificate? Or should I avoid getting my Associates degree in general studies because it’s useless? I don’t know. I live in Los Angeles and if I get a real estates certificate will it help me or will they decline it and have me get one through their own program?

College is not for everyone. No you do not need a degree. You have to take specific classes dictated by your state licensing board and pass the state test. Contact the real estate agency for your state & find out the licensing requirements.

No degree is required to become a realtor. However, there are classes that you have to take to prepare.

Legally speaking a degree is unnecessary, but gaining a degree in marketing would be a great asset towards your success in the business. That being said, a liberal arts degree is also helpful as it enables you to know lots of stuff about lots of stuff enabling you to relate well with people in your constant effort to develop business. Plus, having that degree is bonus if you discover real estate isn't your niche. Not everyone succeeds in the business.

No, just pass the course and be prepared to go months without getting paid.

You take a specific course to become a real estate agent but its not one that they offer in college, so far as I know. So it doesn't matter so much what your degree is in, you learn everything you need (to become licensed) in the course. Just pick a degree that interests you but try to pick classes that may be applicable - finance, managment (in case you eve go off on your own), sales, effective communication, stuff like that.

No, in most states you can get a license with a simple community college real estate course.

RE's do not need college degrees.
