Chihuahua won't let me touch him?

A stray male chihuahua dog I found at a local park is currently living in my back yard along with my other male chihuahua and a female Basset Hound.

The dog has been in my back yard for a week now but refuses to let me touch him. He scurries if I get too close and if I corner him he'll start aggressively barking at me.

A dog that is that afraid has usually been abused or has been living feral for an extended period of time. Unless you can get ahold of him to collar and leash him or trap him in a carrier or trap, he will never trust you enough for you to pet him. Once he is on a leash, you can control him to do whatever you want him to do. The problem is that as an abused or feral dog, you can definitely expect to get bitten.

Take this dog to the shelter. He sounds like he has been abused in the past. He might even try to bite you and you do not know what shot he has or hasn't had!!!!!

So are you collecting strays? Do any of these dogs living in your garden belong to you? There is likely someone looking for this lost dog, so report it as lost and get them to come and collect it so the owner has some chance of getting their dog back

You do not HAVE to "TOUCH" him, and you may get BITTEN if you try.

Instead, call the Animal CONTROL and have them come pick him up. He is NOT your responsibility - other than what you have done to prevent him from being HIT by a car or starving.

You have NO BUSINESS holding him HOSTAGE - when any owner would be expecting to FIND him at Animal Control or the local SPCA.

Turn him over IMMEDIATELY => BY CALLING ONE OF THEM to come pick up a FOUND DOG!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you considered that this dog has AN OWNER who is currently distraught and trying to find him? You really should be advertising him as found, and better, contact your local Shelter to come out and collect him. The Shelter is usually where anybody with a missing dog will be checking. And he also needs to be checked for a microchip.

Is your Basset spayed because if she comes into season, having two males 'in attendance' could be a recipe for disaster.
