Has diazempam (Valium) helped you guys with extreme panic attacks?

I’ve been having constant panic attacks and some get bad enough I have to play on my phone or something to get my kind off of feeling like I’m going to pass out or despersonalization, I had these attacks bad about a year and a half ago but got over them but they came back whenever a co-worker started smoking weed at work and blew it in my face, I got one almost instantly then and now they won’t stop, my doctor gave me Valium but I’ve never liked taking drugs but they’ve been super bad, anyone have expierence taking diazepam for panic attacks?? :) thanks

I imagine some people would say it's been helpful. It doesn't seem to be the best way though. If you look at the recommendations of the UK's National Institute for Clinical Excellence, they don't recommend it for panic disorder.

A study showed that a biofeedback method called CART that reinforces slow, shallow breathing was more effective than cognitive therapy for panic disorder. Slow breathing is often recommended, but deep breathing tends to promote hyperventilation, making it hard for people to breathe. Many people use slow breathing self-help successfully.

This answer has advice for slow breathing, stress management advice, and the name of a good self-help book.

Only prescribed here in the UK for a minimum 14 days as they are very addictive.

You need to look for self help on the internet , you need to do this yourself with deep breathing and calming exercises.

Drugs are not a long term solution, your mind and self control is.
