    44cm = 0.44m

    The ruler falls a distance 0.44m while you are reacting (which takes time t).

    From part a) we know t = √(d/4.9). So we substitute d=0.44

    t = √(0.44/4.9) = √0.0898 = 0.30s to 2 sig. figs.

    2d/(9.8) = d/(4.9)

    Coincidentally (but not relevant) is 2d/(9•8) = d/(4•9) = d/36 where • is for scalar multiplication.
