New dishwasher will not drain?
I just had a new Maytag dishwasher installed by the Loewes contractor this week. The dishwasher will not drain. I think the problem may be that the plastic pin in the garbage disposal has not been removed. I have no experience with plumbing, and I just went through a house flood. Is this a repair I could attempt on my tonight, or should I call a handyman in on Monday to attempt to fix it? I would like to get the Lowes installer back here but that might be a chore and a half.

I'm impressed Eddi! Look at you. Getting things done. Might still be worth a courtesy call to that Lowe's guy just to tell him what happened. Might save someone else trouble in the future.

In many cases the dishwasher will stop draining or draining fully due to a clogged drainage hoses or due to an object caught in the draining pump. There are some cases when the draining pump is faulty and needs to be replaced. We have assembled the top issues to check for a dishwasher that does not drain.
Drain Pump: The drain pump pushes water through the drain hose. If the drain pump motor is malfunctioning the dishwasher will not drain. Drain pumps can be checked with a multimeter. If there is no continuity then it must be replaced with a new part.

Youtube it. You can do it. There is a plug in new washer or the disposal. Find that and your in. Will it pump into a bucket?

Pull the hose off of the garbage disposal unit and use a screw driver to punch out the plastic stopper/plug. Then replace the hose.

Isn’t that plastic tube going to disposal held on with a spring device? Pliers squeezed to release it. Make sure you have power off to disposal, and I don’t think your attempt will screw things up.

You need to definitely call Lowes. The install was not done properly or the machine has a problem.

You're saying the Lowes installer didn't test it afterwards? I would be on the phone with Lowes and telling them you need someone there ASAP. That's not acceptable at all.

I am going to answer my own question for a reference for the future. I just solved my own problem. I have a standard garbage disposal.
-- If a hose is attached to the side of the garbage disposal, there should be an opening for the water to drain out. If there is no opening, you have a piece of plastic (a plug) that needs to be removed. New installations frequently forget to do this. See image.
-- Turn off power to your dishwasher and garbage disposal, preferably at your circuit board, so you do not electrocute yourself.
---You should be able to notice this opening. If you do not have one, you have a plug that needs to come out. DO NOT STICK YOUR FINGER DOWN THERE WITH POWER ON PLEASE!
--- Slip the guard off the hose to your garbage disposal with a pair of pliers and remove the hose.
--- Remove the plug from the side of your garbage disposal. I was able to grab mine with a pair of needle nose pliers. Other say it knocks out, but mine came out easily by pulling them. My plug was 1/4 inches and made from white plastic.
--- Reconnect the hose and guard and you are in business.

The installation or the dishwasher itself has a warranty. Use it.
