You know the ones that are shaped like hearts or Santa or something that have those shiny sprinkles. I have never known their name and can’t find them looking up sugar cookie

They sound like sugar cookies to me, Try looking up christmas / holiday cookies.

I agree shortbread cookies. My neighbor/friend's late grandma always made us cookies as an Xmas gift.

They're called Holiday shortbread cookies (try searching "Stauffers holiday cookies," or just "holiday shortbread cookies") or Danish butter cookies, if you're talking about these (in photo attachment).

ANY cookie can be shaped, can hae shiny sprinkles on it.
Most likely what you are thinking of are sugar cookies. White/light-colored cookie .. smooth (not bumpy, no nuts or whatever in it) ...
Sugar cookies. Made with shortening rather than margarine or butter ... cookies with margarine or butter are softer than cookies made with shortening.

I'm not sure of their name, but I DO know they are shortbread and not sugar cookies.
