How do I check the coolant level in my VTX1300C?
The reservoir under the bike is completely empty so I thought there was no coolant. But then someone told me that you are supposed to check that when the bike it as normal riding temperatures, and when it’s cold there could still be coolant in the bike but not the reservoir. So I too off the tank and checked under the radiator cap and there is coolant right under the cap. Does this mean that it’s full? Or is there another way to check?

With the tank off make sure it is full at the cap and reassemble. Top off the reservoir to it's full cold or low mark. I don't recall the marks on that one. Drive and check it regularly, if the level falls there is a leak. Adding a little to the reservoir from time to time is normal; A tiny bit when doing oil change. You should only have to access the cap under the tank for repairs. The marks on reservoir very well might be for checking while hot, that is common. Cold marks are not common. the level will be lower when cold and higher when warm.
If you develop a leak you tow that bike. You have to pop the tank on the side of the road and fill it when leaking if you can't tow. What you put in the reservoir only slowly gets into engine, so it won't replace the lost coolant and you will fry the engine.

Service the reservoir to the level between high and low. Ride the bike for about 20 minutes. Shut down and LET COOL. Check the level again after another hour. Service to the full mark.

From the owners manual:
If the reserve tank is empty, or if
coolant loss is excessive, check for
leaks and see your Honda dealer
With the engine at normal operating
temperature, check the coolant level in
the reserve tank. It should be
between the UPPER and LOWER level marks.
