Has Russia attacked Afghanistan like the United States in Vietnam?

    In the 1980s, the Soviet union was supporting a socialist revolutionary faction in Afghanistan. The United States supported the mujahadin (sp?) who resisted this takeover, and it became a quagmire that many have compared to the US involvement in Vietnam in terms of it's drain on manpower and money. Some say Afghanistan is the war that broke the Soviet Union.

    Yes.

    The US wanted to oppose the Russians in Afghanistan so they started funding the terrorists to fight a proxy war for them. Now they are fighting the terrorists that they themselves created.
