What sets Liverpool apart from the rest of England (other than being the hometown of the Beatles)?
Is it the accents, the people, the general culture?

:Liverpool is the ONLY UK city to have about 50% Roman Catholic population for a start..It was built on Irish immigration as well as Welsh, which a lot of people do not know about...I am told a great grandmother of mine used to say she was going to ENGLAND when she left the city ever! Those who are nasty about it are often anti-Catholic and anti-Irish....IS THE BEST city in the whole UK...

We speak five languages. English, Welsh, Irish(Gaelic), Scouse, and Anglo-Saxon.
We have two cathedrals ; one is 'spare'
We have two football clubs ; one is a 'spare'.
We have a big Irish population ; Liverpool is the 'Capital of Ireland'.
Three of the four Beatles carried Irish surnames ; McCartney, Lennon, & Starkey (Starr).

Only the fact that there was a musical explosion from the city in the early 1960's with the Beatles and the Mersey Beats and Cilla Black and so on. Later they lost the crown and Manchester became the home gof new bands out of the Hacienda club and gave us Oasis, Stone Roses and others. It has changed again and again - so overall many UK cities have their 15 minutes of fame that sets them apart for one reason or another. eg Lockerbie Plane Crash, Hungerford & Dumblane shootings.
The happy ones that are music or art related are the nicest and the others are just tragic. It is the same all over the works in every country.

Apparently, they suffer more than the rest of us.
