Not possible when using an HDMI splitter. It's like a headphone Jack splitter, two ports but same audio. HDMI Splitter will just send the same image to two monitors. You need two physical ports from the machine.

probably not. the reason being is a lcd screen is a fixed pixel dimensions. Most screens simply cannot display a screen size other than the ONE Native screen size that they have. If you are lucky and BOTH screen do actually TRY and display a picture then you would need to match the two up, probably to the Native size of the lowest pixel dimensions display hoping the larger one would resize itself to that size(but you will be lucky as MOST dont). its the biggest negative of any digital display system. good luck.

HDMI splitter gets you identical images at same resolutions. Like looking at same thing on two screens? No? Want extended working area instead? Then any splitter is useless trash.

Independent video systems are needed. One external monitor is from the MacBook. Another external monitor is from a USB external video adapter box.

A DisplayPort output from a MacBook can run more than one monitor if it supports Multiple Screen Transport or MST. Then use a DisplayPort hub and adapters for the two monitors.

Ditto with a Matrox Dual Head2Go box for two screens but best if they are same model and resolution.
