Wait a minute. Trump encouraged the trade war that hurt Midwestern American farmers, why is he asking China to stop them now?

The Trade deficit with China has ballooned under Trump, the tariffs don't work because what business needs from China can't readily be sourced elsewhere while the Chinese firms can source the agricultural products targeted by their tarrifs from multiple other sources.

So US firms pay the tariffs and pass on the costs to consumers, and the Chinese firms, don't.

This is what happens when you have an economic illiterate in charge.

It's real simple. The USA is China's #1 customer. And they sell us close to $500 Billion more in goods than we sell them. And any trade sanctions harm China far more than us, thus providing Trump leverage to negotiate.

And yes, the farmers may be taking a hit, but I guarantee you the steelworkers freaking love Trump because he's saving their jobs!

I think he forgot that China trade with everyone on the planet. They could survive without our business.
