is it dangerous to drive a old car through death valley?
im going to LA by car and will probably end up going through death valley but im not sight seeing, just driving straight through and the highs for the day are gonna be about 64 degees ive heard your car is more likely to break down do to the heat and because its below sea level but ive really kept up with the maintenance on my 97 corolla and corollas are notorious for being extremely reliable and it wont be hot so that's half of the danger gone right there, do you think ill make it?

Only one way to find out. I use to drive a '79 Pontiac Grand Prix, 19 years older than yours, and use to drive up and down California, from Central Valley, to Sacramento, to LA and up the Grapevine. The gas pedal would start going all they way down as i went up the hill and would stop at the top, just in case, but never overheated. If i still had the car, i would have no worries driving through Death Valley.

Have your car serviced, check the belts, hoses, tires, radiator fluid, all of the fluids, brakes and all.

While true, 64F is not hot.
What could go wrong?

The only thing that will cause anything to happen is because you think it might. Jus drive on like any other trip. Personally, I wouldn't use the AC, but that's just me. The car should be fine. Just do the normal checks, like tire pressure, oil level, transmission level level and color, coolant, , wiper fluid, pretty much what you would normally do for any trip. Oh don't forget about snack and fluids :)

Get a cooling system pressure test and make sure the battery is good, both a weakness you don't want to fail at 115F. Watch your engine temperature gauge frequently and turn off the A/C immediately if you need to prevent overheating. Bring spare jugs of water or 50/50 antifreeze, oil, tools, jack, a good spare tire etc.

Age does not matter, however the car must be capable of operating at 50c temprature during day and -10 at night. Make sure you have antifreeze, oil changed and take plenty of water with you.
There is a lot of dust on the way also. Good luck

There are hotter places where cars are driven and do perfectly fine.
