You just shovel it into a pile and let it stew.

Get plenty of vegetation to go with them. i get mine behind the local food store and from weeds that haven't yet gone to seed. Don't use onions or citrus. Worms don't like it.I started with some 5 year old horse manure that was full of red worms. I've been using them ever since. I layer the three elements and add worms each layer from last year's pile. It's ready after it sits most all the summer for the next year without turning. Soil, especially forest soil is a good additive because of microbes. It's good to have some sand, too. Cover with straw during the summer. Cover over with tarps and heavy with hay or straw for the winter. Any other manure is better than horse but if that's all you got, it'll work. Keep it plenty wet in the dry part of the summer for the worms and decomposition
