Why is lying to Congress, under oath or not, worse than lying to taxpayers and voters?

Committing perjury to Congress and The Courts, is a felony with a sentence of up to 5 years.

Lying to taxpayers and voters? No Legal consequences at all.

And yet, it's mostly the taxpayers and voters that install these people into our government.

That's an interesting question. But if politicians couldn't lie to the people with impunity, they wouldn't be able to say anything at all.

Lying is only crime, when you do it under oath or obstruct justice. Lying to suckers to get votes is not illegal.

The whole bit where you're under oath.

Christianity is one of those religions where lying is OK, unless you swear you're not lying this time.
