My refrigerator compressor got busted due to power surge and now being replace, any idea how to prevent this from happening again ?

    surge suppressor or uninterruptible power supply. Be sure to check that the maximum amperage rating is high enough for the refirgerator's startup power draw.

    1) I use individual surge protectors on each small electronic device; had a whole-house surge protector that did nothing to protect our fridge when we had a surge . . . then the electric company denied responsibility calling it an "act of God". Hundreds of customers suffering large losses.

    2) That was some years ago - I understand that new fridges & freezers, air conditioners and the like have built-in surge protectors that do the job better.

    3) When we had the whole-house surge protector installed, it was less than $100 using a private electrician. Now they want $300-$400+, and the electric company wants you to rent one from them for $10 a month forever. Wasted money.
