John 1:12-13 means that ALL who come to saving faith in Christ Jesus as their Lord and Saviour are born again and are adopted into God's spiritual family.

They experience the spiritual re-birth, which means they are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, and they can be assured of their eternal reward.

The evidence is in a transformed life, a life that exhibits the fruit of the Spirit.

(John 1:12) But as many received him, to them gave power to become sons of God, even to them that BELIEVE on his NAME.

v:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor the will of man, but of God.

It is important to know that the book of John is the only book in the N.T written directly to unbelievers.

(John 20:31) But these are written, that ye might BELIEVE that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and by that BELIEVING ye might have LIFE through his NAME (caps mine)

(John 1:12-13) is a cross reference to (John 20:31) Right throughout the book of John we read that believing on the name of Jesus that a person will have life through his name.

(John 3:15) That whosoever BELIEVETH in him should not perish, but have ETERNAL LIFE.

(John 6:35) I am the bread of LIFE..he that BELIEVETH on me..

v:47 He that BELIEVETH on me hath EVERLASTING LIFE.

Believing on the name of Jesus Christ will save a person (John 20:31 & 1John 5:13) when one attaches the salvation gospel of his death, burial and resurrection for our sins to his name (1Cor 15:1-4)

(John 1:12)...to them gave he power to become _sons of God_ even to them that believe on his name.

(Rom 8:9)... the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the SPIRIT of Christ, he is none of this.

v:14 For as many are led by the Spirit of God, they are the _sons of God_

(Gal 4:5)... that we may receive the ADOPTION of sons.

v:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the SPIRIT of his Son into your hearts.

v:7 ...and if a son, then a heir of God through Christ.

(Phil 2:15) That ye may be blameless and harmless, the _sons of God_

(1John 3:1)...that we should be called the _sons of God_

Don't get confused with Christ being called "The Son (singular) of God" (John 9:35 & Rom 1:4)

This is a reference to his deity as God manifest in the flesh (John 1:1 & 5:18, 10:30-36 & 1Tim 3:16)

We are sons (plural) of God adopted by him through believing on the name of Jesus Christ.

    (John 1:13) "Born of God"

(John 5:1) "Whosoever BELIEVETH that Jesus is the Christ is BORN of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also is BEGOTTEN of him"

    (caps all mine)
