That is a myth. Most people with schizophrenia are not violent at all.

People are scared of things/people who they do not understand...

They are scared of us who are different. Same thing with people who think someone is mean just because they are bi polar. Not all people with bipolar are mean. People are ignorant

If anything mentally ill are at more risk of violence being done to them by non mentally ill. Who can be very abusive to mentally ill. Mentally ill are the most kindest and gentle souls. When my freind was in a psychosis she was singing and dancing naked. Not violent at all.

Because the average person is uneducated about the condition and all they notice is the person talking to themself. People would have the same reaction if they witnessed a DID patient experiencing an episode too. Although a DID patient would in fact be more concerning since a stranger wouldn't know the nature behind the condition and what the false identity behaves like.

You know... There seems to be an unshakable stigma associated with psychosis in general. This can even be extended to what are deemed as "less serious" mental illnesses, but I think we're slowly getting better. It's really because of the fact that most people wrongfully conflate mental illness with violence. Whereas we've been able to be more accepting of disorders such as depression and anxiety, it's difficult for people to do the same thing with disorders such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, DID, and other disorders which are often times associated with psychosis. I think this is for a few reasons. First of all, most people experience some anxiety and depression, even if they are healthy. So, it's easier for them to understand these disorders. Most people do not understand other disorders because there is a lack of education which perpetuates ignorance, in addition to the fact that they have never fully experienced the symptoms of these disorders. Thus, it is more difficult for them to be sympathetic. Therefore, when the media and the news constantly portray these disorders alongside violent tendencies, the public is more susceptible to these ideas and less likely to dismiss them - they end up making unjust connections between mental illness and violence.

Because they are not in touch with reality and nobody knows what will happen next or when it will happen.

Schizophrenia produces a wide range of bizarre symptoms: hallucinations, inner voices, disordered thinking, irrational fears, and emotions that seem out of tune with reality.

    Horrified? No.

Scared of? Because they don't understand it.

In the past, in Hollywood and still to this day, schizophrenic people are portrayed as psychotic killers with the fictional multiple personas.

This really couldn't be much further from the truth.
