Why do I find ONE black hair in the middle of my head, every once and a while?

I have dirty blonde hair. Every once and a while it seems as though I'll find a black strand of hair right on the front middle of my head and I pluck it out. It's pitch black. Is there a reason for this? Is it considered good luck? I can't find anything online about it.

If you have dirty blonde hair, wash it.

What you mean is you have dirty-blonde hair.

And the expression is 'once in a while', not 'once and a while', though you're certainly not alone in making this mistake.

Your question is an interesting one all the same. This is not unknown, and it seems that the random different hair is not only a different colour, but also usually a coarser texture.

Preserve it and send it to the Smithsonian
