Recurrent problem with my computer: when I try to get on the internet, it says there is no connection.?
All the lights on the modem are on. I try to analyze the problem and I get a message that says "network adapter not properly installed." I reboot everything and it fixes the problem temporarily. This has happened three times. Can anybody suggest what I could do to keep this from happening?

What Windows do you have? Win7,8,10? Installing devices in Windows can be very tricky. Most of the time if the device driver is not right, the installation fails. PC techs before Win10 spent most of their time searching for device drivers. What I would try first is start the Device Manager from the Control Panel and look for the network adapter, double click it and agree to search for a device driver. Windows will search for the driver and hopefully the adapter will be able to connect to the internet so Windows can search their too. If your're lucky the device driver will be on your harddrive. You may have to tell Windows where to search for the driver. Most drivers are in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers Sometimes Windows will think it has the right driver and install it but the driver is not exactly right or has been damaged, This rarely happens but is not unheard of. If that doesn't work, from Device Manager, uninstall the adapter, exit Device Manager and restart the pc. Windows will detect the adapter and reinstall it. If none of that works, you have to find the correct description of the adapter so you can search the internet for the proper driver. Very likely others have encountered the same problem and will help you find the right driver. Good techs learn from other techs and share the knowledge. Once or twice I had to delete the driver windows was using because it wouldn't work but windows insisted using it. I had to find the correct or undamaged driver on the internet. Most often drivers are .exe files that you doubleclick to install but not always. Not that many years ago, drivers were.zip files you had to unzip in a folder you created and then tell Device Manager to find the driver there.
