Does anyone know what the problem with my brothers xbox?

This problem just started today. The Xbox one won't read any games on disc. The download games we bought from. The store works but no discs read and I've tried a few things like turning off the Xbox and resetting it but nothing works. I dont know if it's under warranty because we've had for like 4 years I think. My brother is really upset he can't play his games. Is there anything or do we have to get a new one?

Well, to start with, it is an xbox...

  • Get a disc cleaner , a disc and you pour on some liquid and then insert into xbox and play it and it cleans the laser eye, worked a treat for me.

It won't be under warranty if you know it's 4 years old.

Sounds like the drive failed. Easily repairable but if Microsoft charges a similar amount that Sony and Nintendo charge, they would charge about $100 - $150 for that repair.

If you can find someone local who can fix it it may be cheaper, but repair through Microsoft would be a safer, but more expensive, way to go.

Still cheaper than buying a new Xbox.

Try switching it’s position. If it’s vertical then switch to horizontal. The lens runs on a track and there will be wear and tear as it goes back and forth. If it’s slightly off track then it can’t read the disk correctly.

It’s out of warranty unless you bought the 3+ year extended warranty. Warranty is only for 1 year.

The optical pickup (laser assembly) isn't working.

Take the console to a game repair specialist.
