Do employers lie or put on an act during interviews?
I went to a job fair today for fabrication work. I was dressed well and looked presentable. It went well, atleast that's what I'm thinking. A guy showed me around and then brought me to another guy who would supposedly be my supervisor, this guy didn't say much before he brought me to the production manager who then conducted the interview. I told him I didn't have much experience and am probably not the best candidate but that I am a very hard worker, I learn quickly, have reliable transportation, show up on time, stay late, and would do whatever they ask of me. He ended up circling sandblaster and put a 1 next to it, which was one of the things I put down for on the application. He then told me that the pay range for that job was 12-14 and asked if I was okay with that (yes), then told me about the employee benefits of the company, then asked if I could work second shift (yes), when I could start (today). Finally he shook my hand and walked me to the secretary, give her my application and mumbled to her something about sandblasting, then shook my hand for the last time saying "we definitely be getting in contact with you."
I'm just wondering if maybe he could've been making me feel good just to get me out of the door. Maybe I'm just paranoid but it did sound good to the hear. I really need this job with all my prior screw ups. Has anybody had any similar situations or advice?

I haven't had similar situations, but it seems like you got the job! Good on you, and may your job help find you good things.
Maybe we're all paranoid over nothing. But God is the only real object of trust that is worthy of being one.

Most potential employers are professional and have no reason to lie.
Just wait until they call you, that's if they didn't find other candidates that blew you out of the running. I would continue applying for other jobs in the meantime.

They need to sort through all the applicants. They're not going to waste their time or your time. Since they spent a lot of time with you, you probably made a good impression. If you put yourself in their shoes, you'd want to meet and greet all the applicants.

Not all interviewers are experts and some are duplicitous. In my opinion, the last guy sounds like he wanted to give you a job, but other people often overrule the person who is encouraging. Most interviewers would not say "we definitely will be getting in contact with you", but more likely would say, "your application looks good but we do have several more candidates to consider."

Sounds to me like you are getting the job.

Just wait until you hear back from them, until then keep applying to other jobs.
