Why do so many people think mopeds are motor cyles?

A motorcycle is 2 wheeled vehicle powered by a motor/engine.

A moped is primarily a low powered motored hybrid of an engine and human power. The purpose of the pedals is when the motor isn't operating nor being used. Simple logic.

A moped is also a 2 wheeled vehicle powered by a motor/engine. My sister has a moped and it certainly does not have pedals.

Good question TEFLONGUY1. Your explanation is accurate. I've wondered that myself. Modern mopeds are primarily scooters w/out pedals today. Not really considered a real motorcycle nor a real bicycle. Most people today do not understand the term "moped" is a motorized 2 wheel vehicle with pedals."mo" = motor. "ped" = pedals. Most people have not seen nor driven one.I had one when I was kid. Back in the day when you didn't need license plates or insurance for them.

Where do you live where mopeds have pedals? My grandfather has a pedalled moped in the 1930s, I thought they disappeared after WWII. There are power-assisted electric bicycles out there. They are not classified as mopeds. Anyway, for those who don't care for neither mopeds nor motorcycles the difference is academic and uninteresting.

I checked and mopeds do not have pedals, at least they don't have to. The difference is the size of the motor and the size of the tires. So perhaps you are confused as well. https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1RNVE_enUS554U...
