I feel like a college degree is kind of pointless if you have no connections and no work experience. Do you agree or disagree?
Even if you have a degree in a field with lots of jobs like engineering.

The degree is not pointless. There are certain jobs one can not even apply for without a degree.
However, you bring up a good point about connections and work experience. But the connections and work experience are things one can obtain by attending college.
If a student only takes on-line classes or never leaves their dorm room, they've done little to prepare themselves for life. As Marshall Criser, the former President of the University of Florida once famously said "Only 15% of a student's education takes place in a classroom".
If you want to prepare for a job or career, you need to start by being active at your college. Join a fraternity/sorority, even if it's a service fraternity. Try out for a sports team or band. Work on the school paper or radio. Intern outside of your school. Get an on-campus job. Volunteer or get involved in student government. These are the things that prepare you for the real world.

being connected or likable both have a place in being hired degree or not
but the problem with degrees most are not of any real value no matter what
Doctor Engineer etc yes
the real problem is what people told you before hand Grandma , teacher buddy etc
Jobs promised by educators often are not worth spit
You have to realize Elitist with jobs need to justify their job

I agree, nobody's gonna hire someone until they prove that they can do the job.

Even though the degree alone won't get you many jobs without connections or prior experience, it will probably help to get you a job one day when a company interviewer likes you and the job requires the degree.

Yeah, you may as well just curl up under your bed in the fetal position an suck on yer thumb. It's all just so pointless, ain't it?

So build connections and get work experience. That's part and parcel of what a degree is supposed to prepare you for. It's not just a content dump. MIT puts many of there courses online - you can learn the content from home. But you'll never be a professional engineer - partially because you won't have the credentials, but also partially because you haven't even attempted to join the community of practice. That's important. And any good school helps you do just that.
Not really but you do need work experience
