How come friends take this the wrong way?

Sometimes when I’m talking to a friend, I’ll mention another friend and talk about how sweet they are etc. At an appropriate time of course. But apparently this makes my friends feel like I don’t like them, and like I don’t want to hang out with them?! I don’t understand why I can’t give another person recognition without seeming like I don’t like the friend I’m talking to them about. And yes, I compliment all my friends and make sure they know how amazing they are! I’m not leaving anyone out. But right when I talk about a nice encounter I had with another person, they suddenly think I like that person better. I want to try and understand why this is happening? I don’t want to make my friends upset. But I also don’t understand why they are getting upset over this. Especially when I also compliment them too.
