I filled out a lease application and I'm scared it might have been fake, I had to put my social, birthdate, and name. What should can I do?

I filled out a application for this house off craigslist and I'm not sure if its real or not after I filled it out and sent it in he didn't say much afterwards, and now I'm learning that people can scam future home owners.

Most applications require birth date & ss#. SS# is needed to run credit check. Yes there are a million scams on cl but nothing you posted says scam in & of itself. Just asking for bd & ss# does not mean it is a scam.

It is good to have a fraud alert in general.

Source(s): Every application every company I have ever worked for or rented from required birth date & ss#. Oregon has state standardized forms. The state of Oregon created application requires it.

Put credit freezes and fraud alerts on all your credit reports.

You got scammed. No landlord has any need for your SS# or birthdate. They need your name, current address, and your current employer and income information.

Put a fraud alert on your SSN at the credit bureaus.
