can you buy stuff from a scrap yard?

I need a good fully stainless steel bbq grill and last time i went to the dump they had like 20 of them lined up in fixable condition. Usually all they need new burners or a pressure regulator and a long thorough scrub down obviously.

Would the scrap yard sell me one?

A scrap yard and a dump are not the same thing.

A scrap yard will (usually) sell you stuff for about the value of the weight of metal.

Most dumps are in the business of selling on to other contractors and won't sell to the public (dumps are an insurance nightmare) but you might be able to do a deal on the side with the attendant, so it is always worth asking.

Scrap yards are in the business of selling items in bulk as scrap metal.

Dumps are in the business of BURYING items in bulk.

You can have my old one. Pretty much as you described, plus one leg rusted through and is a bout 3" short.

Some will, some won't. They will more likely sell if they are more rural, where land is cheap.

Why are you asking US? Just for starters where we live the scrap yards may have different rules, so even if we're right for our own locales, we may be wrong for yours.

Call the scrap yard and ask THEM.
