There are several approaches to providing the mental health services that are needed in this country. Those approaches have been put forth by experts for decades. Most cost money that the various levels of government have to be willing and able to spend.

The fact is, however, that other developed countries have mentally ill people, of course, but they have a small fraction of the rate of gun violence that we have in this country. They also have a small fraction of the homicides, by any method, that we have. Guns are a very efficient means of killing people, as we have seen. We must concentrate on sensible gun control if we're going to have success in reducing mass-violence acts.

Also, even with improved background checks, there are disturbed people who haven't been diagnosed or recognized as disturbed. They could still easily purchase extremely fast guns and high capacity magazines. We have to focus on addressing the easy availability of such weapons.

Bring back mental hospitals for the criminally insane, and stop handing out psychotropic drugs like candy. It has been shown that these drugs cause psychotic episodes in people. It's the one link that's common in all the mass shooters.

Instead of blaming gays and video games ........ maybe change labor laws to ease up on mental health and stresses

Round up all the loony liberals and lock them up. It seems Commie/Liberal places are where all the mass shooting happen. We need liberal control.

The prescribing of psychotropic drugs should be closely scrutinized and decisions made to control it.

I have a friend whose daughter had a reaction to an acne medicine. They then gave some psychotropic drugs. She went from bad to completely nuts immediately.

And too many of these shooters have been on psychotropic drugs at the time of the shooting or stopped taking them shortly before.

I say we reopen all the government loony bins that Reagan shut down and send out the guys with white coats and nets again to gather up all the loonies and put them in them in those loony bins.

There are already laws about assault knives - straight blades can't be over a certain length, and stilletos and switch blades are illegal and can land you in jail. We can't snap our fingers and end mental illness, and Republicans already blocked laws to keep mentally ill from having guns, lol. So it's a stupid argument scripted by the NRA for one purpose only - to stop discussions about new gun restrictions.

most gun violence isn't caused by mental health mostly because of hate the Dayton shooter was in a pornogrind band that talked about murdering and raping women the el paso shooter hated none whites.

There seems to be a general consensus that mental health plays a role in mass shootings. However, I'm not aware of any steps taken by the current administration to increase funding for mental health services.

To answer your question, the biggest change we could make is to properly fund mental health care, and to include a mental health screen as part of the background check process required to purchase a gun.
